Years of scientific knowledge lived in the application's models, instrument integrations, and review workflows. Updating the framework meant working carefully through those dependencies while retaining the software's purpose and familiar ways of working.
02 / The contribution
Modernization across the application.
- Carried framework upgrades through successive Rails versions, with compatibility changes across scientific models and controllers.
- Updated authentication dependencies, asset handling, application configuration, and deployment support as the platform evolved.
- Adapted the existing tests alongside the application changes, covering the domain behavior affected by each upgrade.

A Rails 8 codebase that retains the established scientific workflows and shared foundation for internal laboratory work and a public research resource. The upgrades became part of the main application.
