01 / The challenge
Change needs a recovery plan.
A critical warehouse needs a repeatable way to introduce changes and a practical recovery process. Operators also need to distinguish an accepted restore request from a completed restore, then inspect whether the expected tables and row counts are present.
02 / The contribution
A process the team can inspect.
- Built versioned Snowflake deployment workflows with dry runs, deployment history, and smoke checks.
- Implemented Azure-backed recovery with execution coordinated inside Snowflake and durable status records for operators.
- Added a separate verifier that checks restored tables and row counts against a saved backup manifest, with runbooks for execution and review.
03 / The result
Repeatable work. Documented evidence.
Repeatable deployment, recovery, and verification tooling that makes the process inspectable: what was requested, what ran, and what still needs attention. A supporting audit package documented backup failures, corrective work, and subsequent execution history for the client’s operations team.
Engineering by Mike as part of a client delivery team. Recovery verification covers table presence and row counts; content-level reconciliation depends on the dataset.
